Introduction

Whether you have already produced a few projects and events and are looking to expand your practice or you're fresh out of school and simply contemplating a career in sound and music, the Artist Toolkit is a one-stop resource where you can find information on how to develop and support your career in the arts. Find tips on how to fund your project, how to promote yourself, ways to make a living, along with links to resources, such as contract and budget templates, stories from experienced professionals, and step-by-step guides to help you become a self-sustaining artist. Learn how to master your own music, put together a portfolio, self-evaluate your work and find out how to further develop your work and skills. 

Making a living as an artist is not easy, especially as resources are shrinking quickly in today's economy. Many artists have multiple jobs and play different roles in society as teachers, producers, arts administrators or hold a range of related or unrelated jobs to support their artistic practice. The Toolkit will help you get to grips with some of the options and possibilities for developing and supporting your practice. The Artist Toolkit is a resource created for and by the makers and producers of sound, music, compositions, performance and installation work.
