Workshop Leading

One way to consider your practice as well as a means of making a living is to teach or become a workshop leader. Getting funding for projects can be difficult and time-consuming. Many artists will often teach as part of their practice. Teaching is also creative, where learning and participation becomes the core of the work itself and collaboration with others is more important than the end result.

Engaging with Sound (2010) is a film produced by Sound and Music exploring pedagogy and workshop leading as a creative practice. The documentary explores participatory practices of sound through interviews with professional artists and workshop leaders. Learning and participation is taken as a model for creative practice, not simply as a challenge to traditional one-way presentation models (ie. exhibitions and performances), but as a means to sustain their practice and to negotiate their role as artists.
