CALL FOR SCORES FOR SAXOPHONE QUARTET - DEADLINE JUNE 30th 2012

We are calling for scores for Saxophone Quartet. The competition is open to all composers without restriction. The pieces submitted should be unperformed, but do not need to be newly written. 

The final of the Competition will take place during the Festival. Herne Hill is in London SE24, UK. The performers will be the syzygy, who are contemporary music specialists. Details: www.syzygyquartet.co.uk

Duration: Maximum 5 minutes, but as short as you like.

Instrumentation: Pieces submitted should require only Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone Saxophones. These may be used in any combination, although no more than 2 baritones should be required.

Process

July/ August. The quartet will play through all the entries. Together with the Festival Musical Director, they will assess the pieces and draw up a shortlist.

October 17th: The shortlisted pieces will be performed in a concert in the Festival. The audience will vote. Their votes will be combined with the votes of the musicians to select the winner.

Prize: A certificate and the glory. Also, syzygy will perform the winning piece again at a future concert in London.

Format of submissions:

Submissions must take the form of a bound A4 portrait format, double-sided score, with a set of parts prepared for performance. Fee of £10 for taking part to cover our administration costs. Post submissions to: Herne Hill Music Festival, 20 Elfindale Road, London SE24 9NW, with a cheque made out to the 'Herne Hill Music Festival'. Ask for details for payment from other countries.
