Julian Leeks grew up in Cheltenham and is now based in Bristol. His early musical experience was as a singer and lead guitarist in a number of bands, before turning to a more formal study of music in his twenties.
He studied for a BMus degree at Cardiff University and has an MA in composition from Bristol University where he is currently writing up his PhD under the supervision of John Pickard.
His music bears witness to his diverse musical interests, which range from medieval liturgical music, through to the contemporary avant-garde and “world music” (in particular Indian and African music), as well as rock and electronica. These varied and contrasting influences combine to produce a unique and compelling musical voice.
