9 November 2015 - Applications now closed for Embedded with the Open Data Institute

For Embedded Winter 2015, we are delighted to announce a new partnership with the Open Data Institute.

Founded by web inventor Tim Berners-Lee and Sir Nigel Shadbolt in 2012, the Open Data Institute enables and promotes the value of open data worldwide. Based in Shoreditch, London the ODI works with governments, adacemia and industry, helping to unlock supply and demand for open data for everyone to share its value. The Data as Culture programme brings together artists, commissioned artworks and exhibitions to creatively explore the cultural understandings and implications of open data in our everyday lives, often unknown.

The Embedded programme seeks to offer diverse and meaningful partners for composers to work with. The residency with the Open Data Institute offers a new breed of partner, and one of great cultural importance. This residency will provide an opportunitiy for the two organisations to work together and support an artist to create a sonic work with data as their subject, exploring how data can not only enrich our cultural environment but improve our conceptual understanding of what data is and where it can lead us to.

The selected composer will have 9 months to work as an Artist in Residence at the Open Data Institute to create a new music or sound work inspired by, using or telling stories of open data. This opportunity is for someone who is looking to develop their creative practice further and will be supported by Sound and Music and the Open Data Institute to achieve this end. The culmination of the residency will be an exhibition with the other artists on the Data as Culture programme.

Thank you for your interest.
Applications for this opportunity are now closed

but look out for our stories, images, and updates from the chosen composers.
