What is Go Compose?
Go Compose! is an intensive composition project for young composers aged 13 – 18 who are still at school. It’s a unique opportunity to work with professional composers and musicians to create your own, original piece of music which will be performed in the Red Note Ensemble’s Noisy Night on 22 October as part of the sound festival. You will also receive a recording of your piece.

Who is it for?
The project is for anyone aged 13 - 18 who has tried composing and who would like to learn more.  We are looking for people with potential and commitment, who are enthusiastic about creating their own, original music and keen to try out new ideas.

When is it?
Go Compose! takes place 20 - 22 October 2011. It will be a challenge to complete a whole composition in three days, so we expect you to commit to the whole project.

Timetable for the project
Thursday 20 October, 10am – 5pm
Friday 21 October, 10am – 5pm, plus optional evening performance at 7.30pm
Saturday 22 October, 10am – 5pm, plus performance including your piece at 8.30pm

Where is it?
All workshops and performances take place at Woodend Barn, Burn O’ Bennie, Banchory AB31 5QA. www.woodendbarn.co.uk

What does it cost?
Go Compose! only costs £10 for the whole course. In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend two performances (one of which will include your piece) free of charge. Anyone coming to the performance with you will be asked to pay £5 for their ticket.

Who is leading Go Compose?
The project will be led by composers Pippa Murphy and David Fennessy with professional musicians from the Red Note Ensemble. There will be additional support from students from the University of Aberdeen’s music department.

What happens after I’ve submitted my application?
We will let everyone know if they have been selected to participate by 7 October. You will then be asked to confirm that you still wish to attend and for the fee of £10.
