Sound and Music

Since 1943 many of the UK’s leading composers have been ‘discovered’ and have received some of their earliest professional performances through The Shortlist. These include Harrison Birtwistle, Peter Maxwell Davies, Richard Rodney Bennett, Judith Weir, Brian Ferneyhough, James MacMillan, Steve Martland, Benedict Mason, Joby Talbot, Tarik O’Regan, Claudia Molitor, Anna Meredith and Phillip Neil Martin.

After much research and consultation, the programme is shifting into a new Artist Development scheme of work called Embedded.  So, for this year (2010 / 2011) the Shortlist is in its final year where we will continue to offer commission opportunities for the composers on the list.   These composers are also able to apply for the Embedded opportunities too.
