Getting It Right? Performance practices in contemporary music
Venue
Date
An exciting day of talks, debates and seminars on the performance practices of new music, convened by Julian Anderson as part of the Guildhall School’s ResearchWorks series. Is there such a thing as authenticity in the performing of contemporary music? What do notions of accuracy and precision mean in new music? Are performers getting it right? A wide range of internationally celebrated performers and composers, including Helmut Lachenmann, Michael Finnissy and Jane Manning, debate these and other related questions. The day culminates in an evening concert by Guildhall School musicians, featuring new works by Michael Finnissy and prize-winning young composer Ed Finnis, as well as Lachenmann’s classic third string quartet Grido.
Part of Centre for Orchestra, a major initiative in orchestral training and development.
