Chameleon Lectra
Paul Ramsay: PR - born UK 1959
From an early age, PR has been interested in music and especially the album as a cultural unit (see PR's Album).
Trained as a recording engineer in London W1 1978/9. Member of improvising group PGRS who released one album 'Photographs of Sound' on the RiskyDisc label in 1979.
Become involved with several bands in Southampton in the 80's including The Omega Ensemble, The Poor Bachelors, Exploding Seagulls and the B-flat Terrorists. Recorded (but did not release) album of songs: 'The Fight Between Red and Green' and formed, with Robin Watts, an improvising guitar duo variously titled 'Those Nice Men', 'These Nice Men' and 'Four Point Paint'.
Since 1995, PR has been developing a computer-based, indeterminate music system entitled 'Parallel Music' or 'PMusic' and the Chameleon Lectra website was originally formed as a means of detailing and releasing 'PMusic' pieces. However, the website grew to encompass the Motile record label and an online sketchBook as well - see blog PR's Album.
'Inlets'
(RMusic 001) is PR's first release on the Motile record label (2004) 'in the territory between classical and experimental'.
'Magic Stones' (RMusic 002) is Motile's second release (2006) and features soundscapes by award winning composer Robert Jarvis.
The development of 'Parallel Music' continues and 2006 saw the release of several PMusic Singles via CL. An interactive bookwork describing the PMusic method and its context is also in development.
Recent 'PMusic' projects (2006-10) are: 'The Sound of the Field' - a mail art/sound art collaboration 2006'Mobile Dawn In An Old World Garden' - exhibited at the 'Anti Parallel' Egenis Show, University of Exeter from March 16th 2007'etude 23' which premiered as part of the Sound and Film (Voices Festival) in Plymouth on 24th February 2008 and 'Consemble': an online, indeterminate, open-compositions project (open to all - new Consembles launched 21st May 2010).
PR is a lecturer in Fine Art, University of Plymouth.
