Matthew Kaner was born in 1986, and attended the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe. Having gained a first-class degree in Music from King's College London in 2008, he went on to complete an MMus in Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with distinction, supported by a scholarship from the City of London Corporation and supervised by Julian Anderson.
He then continued his studies with Professor Anderson at the Guildhall for a year as a post-graduate fellow in composition. He now teaches part time as a professor at the Guildhall in the Music Studies Department.
