Sound and Music

Since 2007 Happy Penguin Hungry Bear have been establishing their unique sound. During that time they have released a double A-side single ‘Phossy Jaw/Prickly Heat’ to critical acclaim.

The core of the band consists of four self taught musicians from south London whose aim is to create music that they are passionate about and reflect their loves and interests. They are primarily inspired by their childhoods, their relationships, their experiences and environments, history, and British anthropology past and present. As well as well as a wide range of music, film, art and culture.

Their new EP is due for release in May 2009, which is of far greater ambition and scale than anything they have attempted previously. The band have solely written, recorded and produced the EP, as well as scoring the orchestral sections and designing and making every EP package by hand. In the coming months the band will finish writing and recording their debut album, at the same time putting together plans for exceptional live events in 2009/2010.
