Information

Johnny has diverse experience gained in many different marketing environments. Agency and client-side, not-for-profit and commercial, above and below, off- and on-line. He has worked with clients across a wide range of sectors: including Lloyd’s of London, Christie’s, the Environment Agency, British Gas, Cable & Wireless and Air Miles.

Academia included a brief encounter with the RCM, followed by BA Joint Hons (English and Philosophy) York . Highpoints there included a BBC Radio live session with momentarily infamous jazz-funk band, Culture Shock, and a sell-out run in satirical revue with equally transient Comic Underground at the Edinburgh Fringe.

After regular student contracts for Edinburgh Festival Press & Publicity, first steps in arts marketing were with the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, then as Marketing Manager at the London Philharmonic, with the pioneering team that led to its SouthBank Centre residency. Lured by the glamour of advertising, he leaped the fence and joined the madmen - first at Saatchi then sister agency, Bates Dorland and, finally, as Associate Director at J Walter Thompson. As Marketing Director of leading global brand consultancy Identica, he helped reposition the agency before deciding to complete the circle by returning to marketing in the music industry, to promote “something I care about”.

Spare time is spent supporting his wife’s contemporary art business, Carina Haslam Art, occasionally advising The Little Missenden Festival, singing in choirs and entertaining three sons mainly in various sporting activities, where he sets a dubious example.
