Profiles
London-based tenor saxophonist, also play flute and piano, very active as both a player and educator.
I teach instrumentalists of all ages and levels locally in east London, as well as on the jazz degree course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. My main focus these days is on playing improvised music - I play regularly with bassist Olie Brice and drummer Tony Marsh in the trio TOM-MIX, in a duo (and other formations) with drummer Javier Carmona, with 'Somedectet', an improvising large ensemble, and with others including flautist Neil Metcalfe, pianists Mike Hurley and Alexander Hawkins, and saxophonists Bruce Coates, Paul Dunmall and Ray Warleigh. Also play more jazzish music with a band called The Twelves, and have long been loosely involved with a group of musicians called the Loop Collective, which organises gigs in London and elsewhere, with links in Europe.
Have lived in England for my whole musical life, first growing up in Liverpool, studying in Birmingham, then moving to London where I still reside... on the travel side, I have toured in the USA (Chicago, Milwaukee + NYC) with an afrobeat group, studied Wolof drumming in the Gambia, was involved in a three-band collaboration with Le Bruit du Sign (from Paris) and [iks] in Montreal, Canada, and played at festivals and clubs in Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Turkey, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland + others
