Profiles
Hi, my name is Danny Hahn, and I run the online multi-arts centre and its studio, NeoKitsch, where I predominantly produce avant-garde music for film and media. I am one of the few figures integrating unusual, vintage and unique instruments to film scoring, well known for using audio oddities such as the Continuum Fingerboard and the Etherwave Theremin. If you follow my activity on the web or decide to work on a film project with me, you'll soon discover my philosophy and the value I bring to film music.
With a strong commitment and understanding of screenplay structure, I combine the intricate principles of story with music composition, allowing even the most subtle sub-plot or subconscious object of desire to be dealt with in the most sensitive and engaging way. Diving back into the golden era of film music, I often use instrumentation and leitmotiv in a traditional, Wagnerian way, while maintaining a contemporary style, be it mainstream or avant-garde. With talented musicians from all sorts of backgrounds joining the NeoKitsch studio, anything is possible, from Science Fiction Jazz, to Twelve Tone Blues, from Neo-Noir to Baroque Tango.
I've been active in composing music for filmmakers worldwide, collaborating with names such as UK Film Council, The League Of Gentlemen, Arts Council England, Sky One and MTV, with works presented at BAFTA screenings and film festivals. Outside of the film world, I have been active in scoring, adapting and directing large productions for the stage, with West Side Story, Frankenstein, Bizet's Carmen and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari as some of my recent highlights. I've performed my music in festivals and concert halls such as the Royal Festival Hall, London, and I also collaborate regularly with musicians in new and experimental music, such as the Thereminist, Lydia Kavina. My work and the NeoKitsch studio has been featured in television shows, with broadcasts such as Channel Five's 'The Gadget Show'.
NeoKitsch provides a freelance service to filmmakers, content creators and publishers alike.
