The Guildhall School of Music & Drama is one of Europe's leading conservatoires, offering musicians, actors, stage managers and theatre technicians an inspiring environment in which to develop as artists and professionals.
The Composition Department offers some of the most stimulating and creative training for composers available in the UK, and the list of distinguished composers that the School has produced supports this. The Department's guiding principle is that composers should develop in collaboration with technically proficient, sympathetic instrumentalists, under the expert guidance of experienced practitioners.
Performance opportunities in contemporary music are generated internally by the School’s New Music Society, Ubu Ensemble and the New Music Ensemble. Externally, Guildhall School composers can take advantage of collaborative projects with a host of external organisations including Sound and Music, City of London Festival, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Swan, and the School's ongoing collaboration with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in its composer-focused Total Immersion Days.
