Profiles
Manchester Camerata has been performing high quality chamber music to the people of Manchester, the North West of England and Cumbria for the best part of 30 years.
Camerata is committed to using the inspirational power of live music to transform lives and celebrates its unique position as a chamber orchestra to deliver this in the twenty first century in the concert hall, in schools across the region, through reecordings, and increasingly in cyberspace!
Creativity and energy are the hallmarks of Camerata’s work and reflect the spirit of its home city, Manchester, where the orchestra is in residence at The Bridgewater Hall and at the Royal Northern College of Music. It also performs regularly in Ulverston, Colne and Stafford, with major education projects in Chester.
Douglas Boyd became Manchester Camerata’s Music Director in 2001, and is currently recording a live Beethoven Symphony cycle with the orchestra, to be completed in 2011.
In the Autumn of that year he'll hand the baton to Gábor Takács-Nagy.
Nicholas Kraemer, Camerata’s Permanent Guest Conductor and Baroque specialist has been making music with the orchestra for over 25 years, and Gordan Nikolitch, Leader of the LSO, has been Principal Guest Director since 2006.
Since June 2007 Manchester Camerata has been developing a unique musical partnership with the RNCM, the first of its kind in the UK. The programme of joint activity provides vital learning and experience opportunities for the next generation of musicians and complements both the orchestra’s concert and learning work.
