Profiles

I am a composer, writing pieces in an accessible contemporary style,which I hope suits the occasion and the performer! I also write pieces because they are something I want to write. Most of my output is chamber or solo music, and together with my friend and colleague, the composer Julia Usher, we run the Primavera self-publishing company.
A great deal of my music is held at the Welsh Music Information Centre in Cardiff. There is a comprehensive list of my works on their website, www.wmic.org
In 2000, I was instrumental in setting up Composers of Wales, the professional association for professional composers in Wales (www.cc-cw.org), which regularly puts on concerts of members' pieces, produces CDs of their works, and holds seminars and workshops to look in depth at new pieces, giving the composer a valuable chance to engage with a performer's take on their work. In 2005, we produced a CD under the title "Ariel", containing music for Flute and Piano including my "About the Wind". Another CD is in the planning for this autumn, for which I have been commissioned to write a piece for unaccompanied viola.
