Tom Butler

2010 –

Tom Butler studied with Peter Nelson, Nigel Osborne and Marina Adamia at the University of Edinburgh from where he graduated in 2005 with a First-Class Honours degree in Music, winning the Tovey Memorial Prize for composition and the Cameron Prize for his contribution to the musical life of the university and also the wider community. He currently studies composition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and is an SPNM shortlisted composer. His work Morph was commissioned by the Edinburgh Contemporary Arts Trust and was recently performed by Rohan de Saram and Ananda Sukarlan. As a conductor, Tom studied with James Lowe before a Donald Dewar Arts Award enabled him to further his studies of conducting with David Jones at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Additionally, he also participated in a masterclass led by Jac van Steen with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
