Nick Sutton (b1985) is a Bristol based producer, composer and artist, working in sound and image. His music covers many disparate styles; traditional acoustic composition, electronic art music, techno and studio based pop. Focusing on fusing ideas running between traditional and modern music concepts, his work is in turn aggressive, paranoid and angular, whilst often remaining tonal and fixed within rigid formal structures. At school Nick studied the piano, viola and dance performance, later focusing on composition, writing for many local ensembles (including the Bristol University Chamber Choir). In 2001 he received an award from the ICA for a work written for the Contemporary Art's Ensemble. Soon after this he began to explore the possibilities of studio composition. He also started to produce dance-based electronica, releasing music with local record labels, touring and performing at various club events and festivals in the UK and America. He graduated from Bath Spa University studying Creative Music Technology, developing several disparate writing styles, namely composition rooted in fusing traditional and electronic music aesthetics. He also began to experiment with video and animation. Whilst studying he remained involved with a variety of projects, working with software developers TAO group on mobile phone music software, and more recently joining award winning sound design company 'Aumeta' as in-house composer, writing for media based contracts. In 2007 he was a finalist in the 'Apple AATCE European Song Writing Contest', exhibited works at the Manchester NOISE festival, and performed for London based Resonance FM. Working under the alias LRAB he continues to develop a range of audio/visual projects, regularly collaborating with graphic design, photographic, video and visual artists.Nick is currently involved with a newly commissioned choreographed work from North Somerset Dance, producing live surround-sound audio and video for the digital arts collective ‘Recursive Function’, continued composition work with Aumeta, and projects/performances as LRAB.
