Profiles
Initially London-based Jane Wells composed music for concert and with dance, led group creative music projects and taught in adult education. In 1987 she moved from London to a music residency in North Norfolk as one of several Arts Council-initiated regional music ‘animateurs’. In the following year In These Places was performed by John Harle with the County Youth Orchestra at St Andrews Hall, Norwich. Other large-scale pieces have included To the Turning of the Millenium (for baritone, children’s choir, small ensemble and tape), Here’s What I Saw (a half-evening of music-theatre) and Playing The Game for symphony orchestra which was premiered in Chelmsford. A mid-length CD of five small-scale pieces played by the Composers Ensemble is available on the Metier Sound label (‘an engaging saxophone solo…a splendid miniature cantata…’ Tempo magazine). Her latest composition, Time Song, is a contribution to a CD of early and recent music recorded in tribute to early music pioneer, David Munrow. The CD is due to be released in autumn 2009 on the Campion label. She has recently completed music-in-education residencies for Cambridgeshire’s Vital Communities, Creative Partnerships and Britten Sinfonia.
