Sulyen Caradon
Sulyen Richard Caradon is of Cornish extraction, tho born in Gravesend, and has a lifelong fascination with Celtic mythology, which led, most recently to his composing a cantata about the life of King Bladud (father of King Lear), the legendary founder of the city of Bath, where he was healed of his skin disease by bathing in the hot mud with his pigs.
Previous work includes his Wassail Rhapsody (recorded for Dunelm) for chorus & orchestra, using 4 old wassail tunes as cantus firmus, along with a setting of a poem by Rose Flint.
Several of his songs are recorded on the 'Lights Out' CD (Dunelm), featuring Ian Partridge, along with songs by Moeran & Gurney, whose unpublished songs he has edited & performed since 1984.
Six more songs are on the new CD from Mynstrallsy, with songs by Roger Lord & Dennis Wickens.
He conducts the amateur Zephyrian Woodwind Orchestra, & leads the Sylfanome Woodwind quintet
He is Chairman of Severnside Composers Alliance, which he set up in 2004 for composers in the West of England; & also chairman of the English Poetry & Song Society.
