Ruaidhri Mannion (b.1985) recently graduated from the Royal College of Music with an MMus in Advanced Composition, achieving distinction, and studying with renowned British Composer, Ken Hesketh. He previously studied at Queen's University in Belfast, beginning his composition studies with Piers Hellawell. Ruaidhri is represented and published by the Contemporary Music Centre of Ireland.
Ruaidhri's work He broke from them, and then he broke from himself was shortlisted by the award-winning London Contemporary Orchestra and selected as a winner of the RCM Concerto Competition 2009, performed by American clarinettist, Molly Walker, at the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall in November 2009. In 2010 Ruaidhri was selected as a 'Rising Star' at the Royal College of Music and and was commissioned to write Jigsaws and Jitters for wind, electric guitars and live electronics which was premiered at Cadogan Hall in June 2010. In 2010 he was the Composer in Association with The Mercury Quartet, culminating in the release of their debut album on Nonclassical/Naxos and hugely successful album launch featuring the premiere of Ruaidhri's work for quartet and actor What will we do with acclaimed mezzo soprano, Linda Hirst.
Ruaidhri regularly performs with renowned cellist, Corentin Chassard as the cello and laptop duo, Partial Gathering. They have performed at many of London's most cutting edge new music venues including The Old Vic Tunnels, King's Place, Whitechapel Gallery, and worked with Resonance FM, Music Orbit and Chimera Productions. Partial Gathering recently made their Irish debut at the Sonorities Festival of Contemporary Music at the Sonic Arts Research Centre.
