Profiles
A classically trained clarinetist, Kate studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In a bid to break free from the traditions of the classical world, Kate sought out opportunities to work with folk, jazz, world and contemporary musicians including The Anna Ryder Band, Fairport Convention and Grammy award-winning percussionist, Lekan Babalola.
Kate has performed at a variety of festivals and venues and is an experienced educational workshop leader working on projects with orchestras, ballet companies, theatres, special schools and arts organisations across the UK. She has recorded for BBC radio and television and composes music for her own collective, The Kate Luxmoore Group - a unique ensemble drawing together musicians from different traditions, culminating in a mix of written, devised and improvised music.
The group’s debut album, ‘The Grove’ features a tour de force of musical talent including Lekan Babalola - percussionist and composer with US jazz chanteuse Cassandra Wilson; Colin Peters - pop bassist (X-Factor); Karen Street - accordionist and composer (Fairer Sax & Strictly Come Dancing); Omar Puente - Cuban violinist currently working with Courtney Pine; Marco Piccioni – jazz and blues guitarist. ‘The Grove’ is available from www.cdbaby.com
Kate is also musical director of the KLLB Band – a collaborative project with Lekan Babalola - whose debut album received rave reviews in MU magazine and the best selling periodical, Straight No Chaser.
