Incubator #1

Sound and Music launched the Incubator in late 2013 with an open call for projects looking to delve into audience development. Four projects were selected and provided with funding and support from the Sound and Music team.

Incubator #1 Projects

The Octopus Collective are experimenting with ways of  attracting local audiences to new music events in non-arts venues. They’ll be testing different event formats and messaging styles and comparing audience data they collect against existing venue data.  The results of the project will be presented at within the Full of Noises Festival 2015  programme on audience development, that will be open to other new music and arts organisations from around the UK.

Convergence Festival is an small scale festival based in London in April – May 2014 fusing together music and technology through a series of talks and gigs. Their incubator project will focus on using technology to communicate to cross-over audiences.

Following on from the success of the past three years of Tusk festival, Tusk Music are premièring a condensed one-day version, Tusk Mini, in May 2014. Interested in exploring digital audiences and their affect on physical audiences, they will be live streaming the event and streaming the audio through radio partner Basic FM. The results of the project will be published online later in 2014.

Walking Stories is a project from Charlotte Spencer of hour-long group audio walks. We’ll be testing how to use networks to access audiences, application of the ‘secret event’  technique and how to utilise this with their database. The learning from this project will be available in Autumn 2014.
