Pupils from Portlethen Primary School in Aberdeenshire have been spending time with workshop leader, Pippa Murphy, learning about sounds and sound recording. Following on from the success of the Sonic Postcards project, Sound and Music has developed an international sound project with partner organisations in three other European countries.

Pupils in all four countries have been listening carefully and recording the sounds from their environment and sharing these with the participants from other countries. A blog has been created to enable all of the young people to share their thoughts, comment on each others' compositions and upload sounds and images.

The pupils from Scotland worked intensively with Pippa and their teacher to plan their recordings and compositions. They recorded sounds from around the school and then they visited the beach and the train station to capture sounds which they felt were specific to where they live.

After recording all of their sounds, the pupils used Audacity, a free audio-editing program, to create compositions made from their own sounds, as well as sounds from the workshops in Belgium and Spain.
