Workshops
To complement the festival programme, Sound and Music organised a range of workshops which focused on radio as an interactive and artistic medium. You can read more about the sessions below and have a look through some of the photos of participants taking part...
Tetsuo Kogawa introduced free radio to Japan, and is widely known for his blend of criticism, performance and activism. He hosted two ‘Radio Party’ workshops; hands-on masterclasses for participants to build their own radios and transmit their own sounds.
Nicolas Collins, hand-built electronic instrument guru and father of a thousand circuit bent toys, led an interactive workshop, where participants had the chance to transform portable radios into touch-sensitive synthesizers, make inductive pick-ups, and learn to use the “Devil’s Music” radio sampling software. The session culminated in a spontaneous, seat-of-your-pants, live performance at the Cut and Splice launch event.
