Each time that [rout] creates a project the group seems to take on a different shape. This involves radical changes in line-up and style of presentation. [rout] is an ensemble specialising in interdisciplinary work and actively seeks out venues and audiences not usually associated with new music. Recent projects include performances at HCMF, Cutting Edge Concert Series 2000, and Brighton Festival. [rout] have been featured on Hear and Now, BBC Radio 3, with performances of work by Joe Cutler, Sam Hayden, Paul Newland, Ian Vine and Paul Whitty.

Apartment House,

Apartment House was created by the cellist Anton Lukoszevieze in 1995. Since then it has established itself as the leading British exponent of avant-garde and experimental music from around the world. Apartment House performances embrace radical elements of avant-garde and experimental music creating a wide range of acoustical and theatrical situations within which volatile and stimulating performances occur.

Named after the semi-theatrical mini opera piece for cello, piano and voice, Vanitas by Salvatore Sciarrino, the group recently formed in order to perform this rarely heard work, and also to give first performances of specially commissioned works by young British composer Morgan Hayes. The success of their initial concert was such that the group is continuing to bring to light rare pieces of 20th and 21st century music for this combination, and to commission brand new works from the youngest British compositional talent.

Andrew Sparling, clarinet

Andrew Sparling has played guest principal clarinet with many UK orchestras, including the BBC Scottish, Philharmonia, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, London Sinfonietta, Sinfonia ViVA, New Kent Opera and Grange Park Opera.

Andrew also appears regularly with many of the most important Contemporary Music Ensembles in the UK, including the Almeida Opera, Apartment House, Chroma, Double Image, Ensemble Exposè, Gemini, Lontano and the Michael Nyman Band.

Thalia Myers, Piano

Thalia Myers has earned an international reputation as an exceptional pianist of wide-ranging musical sympathies. She has performed and broadcast as soloist and chamber musician in over thirty countries; she is dedicated equally to disseminating new works and reviving neglected older repertoire. Her repertoire and solo recordings, most recently on the Metronome, NMC and Usk labels, encompass music from the eighteenth century to the present and include five albums of contemporary works for solo piano.
