Listen to This: Music We'd Like To Hear in Falmouth
John Lely, Tim Parkinson and Markus Trunk, the team behind Music We'd Like to Hear since 2005, have chosen music which, on the surface, is matter-of-fact and sometimes stripped to the bone. At the same time it glows with conviction and focused concentration. This is music they would like to hear, by composers whose work they feel needs sharing.
Reflecting subtle differences in the curators' tastes, the featured works are far from uniform and demonstrate a wealth of distinctive approaches: from Alvin Lucier's pure investigations of close frequencies to the pronounced individualism of Canadian Martin Arnold; from the meticulously detailed scorings of Frankfurt composer Thomas Stiegler to the improvisatory concepts of veteran experimentalist Philip Corner; while the serene spirituality of Swiss cult composer Jürg Frey and London-based Richard Emsley contrasts with the multiplicitous aesthetic of Christian Wolff.
