Insanity, electricity and love collide in a sonic voyage into the shared psychosis known as ‘Folie à Deux’, where a delusion is transmitted from one person to another.

A woman is struggling to connect with her lover. He believes that the pylon outside their house has a special power.  His delusion passes on to her and, as sparks fly, their madness takes hold.

Songs are woven together for two singers, an acoustic harp and a specially created electro-magnetic harp in this modern folk tale performed against a backdrop of responsive light and sound.

Part staged performance, part concept album, Folie à Deuxis a lyrical and intense investigation into love and loneliness within a relationship.

Folie à Deux is a collaboration between British composer Emily Hall, Icelandic writer Sjón and features vocals from Swedish jazz artist Sofia Jernberg.

About Mahogany Opera Group

Mahogany Opera Group is one of the UK’s leading opera companies specialising in contemporary and new work. We formed in January 2014 to uniting two companies under the artistic direction of Frederic Wake-Walker: Mahogany Opera and The Opera Group.

We create new opera in new ways, in different spaces and places throughout the UK and internationally, stretching the boundaries of what opera can be and who it is for. We collaborate with established and emerging artists, working across genres and art-forms. We are interested in fostering creative relationships with audiences, making opera that is in intimate and dynamic.

Current and upcoming projects include concept album and opera Folie à Deux by Emily Hall and Icelandic writer Sjón; Lost in Thought, the world’s first mindfulness opera by Rolf Hind; and The Rattler, an interactive retelling of Rumpelstiltskin for family audiences by Stephen Deazley and Martin Riley.

Mahogany Opera Group is a resident company of Watford Palace Theatre and King’s College London. We are an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) and the only NPO regularly touring new opera across England.
