New website for Listen Imagine Compose

We are delighted to share our brand new website for Listen Imagine Compose - an educational partnership project between Sound and Music, Birmimgham Contemporary Music Group and Birmingham City University.

The new site brings together a huge array of teaching resources for secondary school music teachers as well as information about the Continuing Professional Development course run by the parnership with the aim to inspire and nurture creative approaches to composition in their students. All resources are free to access.

The Listen Imagine Compose partnership, created in 2010, brings “critical friends” to collaborate and contribute to a process of symposia and action research, resulting in the creation of reports, classroom resources alongside shared learning, best practice and accredited Continual Professional Development course.

Lead academic, Professor Martin Fautley says:

“I have been the lead academic on Listen Imagine Compose since its inception in 2010, and have been researching how composing is taught and learned in secondary schools for many years. Listen Imagine Compose offers sound research-based principles, coupled with a clear and logical CPD offer for teachers.  I have enjoyed working on the pilot of the Listen Imagine Compose CPD with teachers, and am delighted that it is now being offered by Sound and Music as a Masters in Teaching and Learning, accredited by BCU.”

The CPD, which has been running since 2014, offers secondary music teachers the opportunity to develop skills in teaching composing with KS3, GCSE and A level students and is now fully accredited by Birmingham City University. Participants can now chose to take a Diploma or MA in Teaching and Learning or in Educational Leadership

Sound and Music is now accepting applications from  teachers from across the country who are interested in doing the course in Autumn 2017. Interested parties can apply through the new platform before the end of June or speak directly to the Sound and Music team to find out more.
