SAM/OTO: Keiji Haino
Two super-rare London shows with the legendary Tokyo noise musician Keiji Haino.
Affecting a rock star pose (long black hair, ever-present sunglasses) and known primarily for his work with the legendary psychedelic rock outfit he formed in 1978 Fushitsusha, Keiji Haino is perhaps the most totemic figure in contemporary Japanese experimental music today.
An unconventional guitarist with an intense, squalling, feedback drenched sound that has made him an underground favourite around the world. When it comes to pushing the boundaries of noise music where guitar is concerned, he has few peers and has been leading the loud, free form, noise-loaded, jazz/rock guitar movement in Japan for nearly three decades. He has also collaborated widely with the likes of Derek Bailey, Merzbow, Jim O'Rourke and Tony Conrad.
This two-night residency will see him joined by European improv heavyweight Peter Brotzmann and Matthew Bower’s Voltiguers.
