Spaceship UK

Spaceship UK
Produced by:
Sound and Music, British Underground and Vinyl Factory

To celebrate the ongoing story of British electronic music over the last 5 decades, Sound and Music, together with British Underground and Vinyl Factory, commissioned a limited edition essay and 7” single for the occasion of Sonar 2010.

The essay Spaceship UK, by writer and broadcaster on off-beat culture Ken Hollings, explores the cultural history of British electronic music as a science fiction narrative.

The limited edition 7" single features two previously unreleased excerpts by pioneering electronic composer Daphne Oram: a sonic experiment for Look  At Life, a series of short 1960s documentary films and a sonic experiment from a tape entitled Manchester I: Single Cymbals Bite Study (1962). In addition, the single features Belbury Poly’s Monstroon (Ghostbox Music, 2004).
