There are a number of open source and creative commons licensing that provide an alternative to the copyright. The internet perpetuates the sharing of content, which can bring in more audiences to your work. Content that is distributed freely can become viral. Allowing others to remix your work can open up to new creative horizons, where ownership is less a worry over the quality of the work. This however, has made it difficult for artists to make a living from their work. Currently new models are evolving that equally allow for the free sharing of work online.
