Incubate festival call for artists

Tilburg's Incubate festival launched last September with a pretty eclectic week of events and artists - an over-used adjective, perhaps, but the only one I can think of for a festival that put Hermann Nitsch, Beninese band Orchestre Poly-Rhythmo de Cotonou, baile funk DJs and obscure black metal acts on the same bill, along with film, poster art, installation and dance.

Would you like to give your opinion on contemporary music in post-war Britain?

Roddy Hawkins, a doctoral student at the University of Leeds doing a PhD on contemporary music in Britain, is looking for people with opinions on the post-war scene.

Caging the tiger

Music, like all performed arts, relies on an unspoken contract between performer and audience that pretends everything is happening spontaneously.

SAM Workshops

Something I'm trying out as a pilot scheme is a series of professional development workshops. The sort of things I'm looking at covering are practical skills and techniques- like using software, hardware etc, more general professional advice such as promotion, fundraising and management of finance and also looking at the work of specific artists.

Icy Sounds

I've been blown away by this fantastic field recording of ice sheets over a lake in Germany made by Andreas Bick.

Variations Podcast Series

Currently making my way through Variations, a really fantastic podcast series on the history of Appropriative Collage, or what we've come to know as sampling, curated by Jon Leidecker for the Museum of Modern Art Barcelona.

Bird on Wire

Soon the Barbican's Curve gallery will take the form of a walk-though aviary for a flock of zebra finches.

Artists Toolkit - Give us a hand...

I’m looking for a bit of crowdsourced help. We’re currently planning the creation of an artists toolkit. Basically a one stop shop of advice, case studies and templates to help out artists who work in music and sound and I’d like some help in working out what problems people want solving and what would be useful for people who make music and sound art.

What is a (classical) composer?

Interesting piece at the blog Rouge's Foam - What is a [classical] composer?.
