I've just received an email from our last artistic director as spnm, Kuljit Bhamra, telling me that he has been awarded an MBE in the new Honours List.

Everyone who worked with him over the last two years during his time as spnm artistic director will be absolutely thrilled for him. Kuljit is one of the most inspiring people we've ever worked with - the events we put on with him were high-quality, exciting, and above all a huge amount of fun. Together we forged connections between bhangra and salsa musicians and dancers, toured pieces newly composed for a hybrid British and Indian folk group, showcased new works written for the BBC Concert Orchestra based on ragas, and developed a groundbreaking universal tabla notation system.
