What kinds of relationships now hold between living composers and their audiences, and how can the performance event be developed to enhance and enrichen these relationships to mutual benefit?  The discussion will review first results from a pilot "composer meets his audience" event at the School.

This is the first in a series of three Guildhall ResearchWorks events this year presenting outcomes from the Understanding Audiences research programme. Directed by Professor John Sloboda (Visiting Research Fellow), the programme aims to explore the ways in which performers become aware of and develop relationships with their audiences, helping performers, sponsors and teachers obtain a better mutual understanding of audiences in ways which will be directly relevant to their future work.

Admission is free; to book please email research@gsmd.ac.uk
