I Infinite Tom Dale
I Infinite
Immersive interactive exhibition to complement dance performances from award winning Tom Dale Company
Set in a white digitally animated environment, I Infinite is a stark, captivating multi-media interactive exhibition and performance at mac birmingham. The exhibition runs 16-24 June.
I Infinite will be presented as a standalone exhibition (alongside the performances) and has its world premier in Birmingham. In collaboration with interactive media designer Noel Murphy Tom Dale has created an environment in which the audience is invited to respond to, and engage with, the space itself. Using interactive software and technology the space will in turn respond to those in the room.
Graphic patterns slice through the space, glowing cubes fracture into a myriad of miniscule squares and pools of light hover in the air like oil on water.
A number of leading companies are currently undertaking investigations into the crossover potential between visual art and contemporary dance. I Infinite at mac birmingham is taking Tom Dale to the forefront of these explorations that are striving to develop new audiences for galleries and dance.
There is a private view of the exhibition following the press performance of I Infinite on 15 June (8pm).
‘A fascinating integration of live dance and digital technology’ **** Mary Brennan The Herald
The performance of I Infinite dispenses with the usual theatrical boundaries between audience and performer. Free to roam around the performance the audiences witness at close quarters the refined movement so often missed in more traditional spaces. Existing somewhere between the digital and organic worlds our dancer embarks on a captivating journey to the infinite. Captivating imagery and refined movement draw you within centimetres of the performer trapped between the artificial and real, digital and organic worlds. Mesmerising, melancholic and thought provoking, Dale’s choreography moves between robotic isolation and liquid fluidity.
TDC use a palate of physical techniques, philosophies and principles alongside leftfield electronica music in the creation of its unique and unpredictable style. TDC’s Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2008, RISE, was a 5 star sell out sensation and Guardian Pick Of The Week. ROAM (2010) continued this trend and sealed the company’s reputation for testing the boundaries of contemporary dance practice. I Infinite is a distinct change of dynamic from Tom’s previously urban inspired work. A short 2011 Fringe run (as part of the prestigious British Council Showcase) was hailed as a triumph by critics and audiences alike.
