25 September 2014 - Calls for Embedded now closed

Embedded is a Sound and Music composer and creative artist development programme. Funded by The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Embedded places a selection of composers from a range of disciplines into extended relationships with leading national arts organisations.

Aimed at talented composers and creative artists at an early stage in their career, Embedded is a bespoke programme, providing practical hands-on experience and a range of significant creative opportunities. So far over thirty composers have benefited from Embedded, and there is overwhelming evidence that it can be a transformational experience in terms of talent development, artistic ambition, professional experience and growing networks. For more information about previous partners and composers involved, please see here

For our Autumn 2014 Embedded residencies, we are delighted to announce two new partnerships with club inégales and Hampshire Music Service. Please note that these two opportunities have different application deadlines.

Hampshire Music Service is a successful and valued business unit within the Education and Inclusion branch of the Children's Services Department of Hampshire County Council (HCC). It provides a comprehensive music education service to Hampshire schools and colleges and a wide range of additional music-making opportunities beyond the school day. Since 2012, it has also been the lead partner in the Hampshire Music Education Hub.

As part of the Embedded programme, Sound and Music and Hampshire Music Service are offering a professional development opportunity for a composer to spend c18 months in residence with Hampshire Music Service. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain experience in both the scope and range of young people’s creative music activities taking place across Hampshire’s Music Education Hub, devising and delivering creative music-making with both schools and a range of groups within the remit of Hampshire Music Service.  The residency provides support and space to develop creative ideas and compositional practice within educational settings, with a particular focus on the place of composing within schools’ classroom work / GCSE provision.

Please read our Embedded Hampshire Music Service call document for more information.

You can apply using our online application form by the deadline noon Tuesday 21st October 2014.

If you have any questions regarding this opportunity, then please contact Judith Robinson at Sound and Music on  judith.robinson@soundandmusic.org or 020 7759 1800.

club inégales is a place of surprises, do not expect the conventional!  It’s not a jazz club, not a new music venue, not a comedy club, not a world music venue … but all of these to appear, in an ongoing search for the best of real new, spontaneous performance.  The club’s home is an intimate underground bar at Euston, with a warm, inviting atmosphere.

The Institute of Composing is a new think-tank addressing the critical issues of making new music today, of whatever kind, in whatever way, from the viewpoints of composer, performer, audience, writer, promoter, funder, technologist etc. Looking at both underlying craft and important new issues.

As part of the Embedded programme, Sound and Music and club inégales with the Institute of Composing are offering an opportunity for 2 composers to spend a year in residence with the club and the Institute. This residency provides a rich professional development opportunity.  The successful applicants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the activities of the club, and to contribute to the Institute’s research and publication strands. The residency provides support and space to develop creative ideas and compositional practice as well as gaining experience in producing live events and collaborating with a wide range of musicians and practitioners.

The Embedded call for club inégales is now closed.

If you have any questions regarding this opportunity, then please contact Hannah Bujic at Sound and Music on  hannah.bujic@soundandmusic.org or 020 7759 1802.
