About this RFP

Sound and Music is the UK’s national charity for new music. Its mission is to maximise the opportunities for people to create and enjoy new music.

The organisation is seeking proposals to conduct an accessibility assessment of its digital platforms and e-communications, including and related subsidiary websites.

The selected provider will deliver an assessment of Sound and Music’s output, a set of recommendations, and a strategic implementation plan, in line with recognised industry standards and W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Sound and Music’s work includes composer and artist development, supporting dozens of composers every year through expert guidance, grants, awards, network-building and workshop opportunities; education, including a range of innovative schemes designed to help young people discover creative music-making; audience development, using new platforms and creative data capture techniques to find out more about audiences and help grow them; and sector development, involving partnerships with leading  organisations, institutes, musicians and media platforms.

The organisation champions new music and the work of UK-based composers and artists, and seeks to ensure that they are at the heart of cultural life and enjoyed by many.

As a leading organisation in its sector, Sound and Music is taking active steps to address issues around accessibility. The organisation has made a number of public commitments and has ambitious plans to improve the landscape of new music in this regard. As a result, and within the context of a new and rigorous Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and Action Plan and in line with the organisation’s Business Plan 2018-2022, Sound and Music has devised a range of new objectives relating to accessibility.

Sound and Music’s commitment

Sound and Music will engage an internal review team to select the chosen provider and to review the work’s potential impact on users, audiences, participants and applicants. This team will also review the recommendations proposed and prioritise activity areas.

Once the Accessibility Assessment is complete, Sound and Music is committed to the following:

  • Share the Assessment’s findings with staff, Board and external stakeholders
  • Agree a timeline for implementation
  • Create a follow-on review one year after the assessment
  • Develop and publish an Accessibility Policy
  • Share its learning across the sector for wider impact
