Festivals and biennales are a good way of getting your work seen and heard. There are opportunities all year to participate in festivals and they support a range of work including workshops, performances and commissions. To get involved in a festival, it is important to network and to build up a reputation with the curators, producers and organisers. Go to events and festivals and speak to people. If an organiser had a good experience working with you, the word will get around. Ask for recommendations and for other key points of contact.

Festivals and biennales will often have open calls for a particular theme. Check opportunities listings for open calls for work. Submit an application and see what happens. Festivals can range from music, media art, film, visual art festivals and any artistic discipline. Find the ones that suit your work and practice the best.

For more information of festivals in the UK and internationally, check The British & International Federation of Festivals, the British Arts Festivals Association or the International Festivals & Events Association.
